Ella Thompson has been showcasing her diverse vocal range for a while now, having toured and recorded with funk legends The Bamboos, made irresistible electro-pop as one half of GL, and become a fave in the indie world as one third of Dorsal Fins. Now she’s ready to return to her soul & funk roots with new single Cool Down My Heart, out March 23 but premiering on Pilerats today!

Released under her own name, Cool Down My Heart is an enchanting cut of funky, groove-laden modern soul with plenty of pop sensibilities. The new single sees Thompson team up with some incredibly talented musos, being co-produced by Liam McGorry (Ex-Olympian) and featuring drummer Hudson Whitlock (Karate Boogaloo, The Cactus Channel, Frida) and saxophonist Will Morrisey (Vance Joy, Guy Sebastian).

Regarding Cool Down My Heart, Ella explains, “This song felt like a bit of a turning point in the sound I was producing. Returning to my soul and funk roots felt very intuitive. The groove felt uplifting to us while the lyrics are about working hard to maintain a tranquility base when faced with challenges. Hearing this music come to life live with my 7-piece band has been a real dream come true and we can’t wait to play more.”
